Becca ignored the ‘no trespassing’ sign to her right and continued down the long driveway. Dry leaves crackled as she stepped across them on the broken concrete. So much for quiet.
She reached the door and stopped. Of course it would be locked. Of course she would be breaking the law.
She pulled out her library card and started working it slowly against the doorjamb.
Resistance. Then – did she only imagine a ‘click’? – she could feel the lock give, the plastic card slide easily around the wooden door frame.
All she had to do now was turn the knob and she would be inside.

B&E with a Library Card! Nice touch. Haven’t seen much of Becca lately.
Thanks, Parrot. Becca and I have been doing some soul-searching lately which is pushing her, me, and my whole novel in a little different direction. I’m liking her a whole lot better now, which is a good thing.
Yes, I love the library card too! I think you should start using CC so I can read entire chapters. Or maybe you should post a couple.
I signed up for CC a couple of months ago, and then did nothing with/about it. But I think it’s time…. I may pick your brain (you still have it, right?) for hints on how to use CC best. It’s a little overwhelming at first.
It’s daunting at first but it gets easier once you understand the process.
LOL
Yes, I still have my brain and my CC account.
I’ve been posting things every other week or so. You can practice on my chapters if you wish… my user name (of course) is dayner. I don’t have anything in this week’s queue but if you go to my page, at the top click “stories” and all my postings will come up. You can also read my crits. DS has done a few crits too, she’s really good at it. Her user name is Darksculpt.
Thanks, Dayner. I will definitely head to CC during the the week-end. I need to get out of my head more.
So cool how you managed to create tension with almost no words here. I love that.
And the library card is an excellent touch
Thanks! Yeah, I like the library card too. Symbolic irony and all that.
Nice dramatic build. I also agree the library card was a nice touch and shows (not tells) a bit about the character as a person.
Nice to see you venturing out, DS. Thanks….
This is so great, and like everyone else, I love that she uses her library card…where is going, is the question…I so want to know!
Uh…I’m kinda struggling with what next here, too. I’m not exactly sure how this will play out, but I’m sure Becca will figure it out if I can’t.
Does your quiet blog mean you’re writing more? Do we get to hear more about Libby or Becca in your next flash 55?
I wish! Can you say power washing and painting the decks, stairs, house, driveway, dog?
