Friday is our first morning without him. The house feels impossibly large, empty. The big tulip poplar outside the window stands barren and leafless against the grey clouds.

Suddenly the sky moves and I wait. Robins, dozens of them, land on the branches.

The tide rises. The tide falls.

I am so sorry you have lost your little guy. My thoughts are with you, Natasha.

Thank you, Parrot. It is SO HARD, even when you know it’s coming, even when you know that your little buddy isn’t in pain any more. I know that in time it won’t hurt so hard, but today is difficult…. It truly helps to know that other people care.

  • You’ve brilliantly expressed your sorrow and yet your realization that you must go on as all things around you do. Your memories will provide the joy you long for.

  • It’s a sad day when someone you know loses someone they love.
Losing a pet is sometimes harder than losing a relative or friend. I believe it has something to do with unconditional love. If only there was something that could ease your sorrow, but
I know words will not lift the burden in your heart.
*Perhaps tomorrow will be easier and the day after that a tad more. Until eventually you will find only joy and smile at the little rememberences and laugh about his little quirks. I hope that day arrives for you soon.

  • I am so sorry about your little guy.
I hope you have many fond memories to smile over once the sadness had faded.

  • I’m so sorry that I didn’t even read this until today. 🙁 My heart is breaking for you now and you penned such beautiful words about the sorrow of losing someone you loved so dearly. I know it will feel this same thing when I lose Lewis, but it’s exactly how I felt the day after my dad died. It’s so gut wrenching, but lovely.
BTW, I love the new look of your site. 🙂

Thanks, Kathan. Yeah, it’s been hard. Spend all the time you can with Lewis, take lots of pictures, and remember the times you are able to share right now in your heart.
