I go to the beach every day for sunlight and waves, for the pelicans, sometimes for more. Take yesterday: thousands of smooth white stones, gathered from – where? not this sand beach – carefully arranged at the high tide line:
HAPPY 25TH CAMILLE they say in letters big enough to be seen from a Cessna flying low overhead.

What a wonderful gesture. Camille is a lucky girl to have someone go to so much trouble for her birthday.
Great 55–and I think non-fiction counts too.
Maybe because I’m older than you (older than everyone, really) I thought it was for their anniversary and that he was flying her over the beach on the way to some wonderful anniversary get away.
But who knows? I guess only Camille and whoever lugged those stones there know for sure.
An anniversary makes it even sweeter.
I thought so too somehow. Tuck this one away to use somewhere…. (Oh, wasn’t the name of the plane ‘Anew’ or something like that??)
What a lovely Flash 55. The mystery of the stones gave me a bit of a chill. No matter the occasion it’s still a powerful expression of love. I’ll take that over gold and diamonds any day!
You’re a lucky girl to have the beach so close to home. You must absolutely love visiting there regularly.
You must have been delighted to see the stone message in the sand. That’s certainly not something you’ll ever see again.
I really like this, it’s so beautiful and has a stream of consciousness quality that I like.
Thanks! And I am indeed VERY fortunate to live near the beach.
